Krokot or Purslane (Portulaca oleracea) is one of our edible weed that growing like crazy in our tiny garden.
This super food growing in so may pots, especially in our roof garden.
Every time we do weeding, we get a hand full of purslane, and boil it for a while for salad.
Great volunteer...
Thanks GOD...
When I tried to grow purslane the slugs ate it faster than it grew! I hadn't realised how much it likes the heat. (There is a winter purslane too.)
ReplyDeleteOh that's interesting! I have never heard about winter purslane. Here the common purslane growing like crazy in our tiny garden. The speed of growth is amazing.
DeleteI looked out the seed packet and sowed some purslane yesterday! On checking the winter purslane details Claytonia perfoliata (syn. Montia perfoliata) is something quite different but similarly abundant only in much colder conditions.
DeleteI think I have to learn more about winter purslane. Thank you for sharing.
DeleteI didn't know that Portulaca is edible Endah.
ReplyDeleteGood appetite!
yes, simple thing but great benefit
DeleteIt grows as a weed here, too. Some folks have tried it, but I haven't yet. You mentioned you boil it for salad; do you prepare it any other way?
ReplyDeleteWe make soup or curry from purslane too. But we put in just before the soup ready.
DeleteDearest Endah,
ReplyDeleteNo doubt you can harvest it abundantly in your climate!
What a welcome gift!
Hugs,
Mariette
