FLOWER OF THE WEEK - STAR FRUIT

My back yard is so colorful this week.
My star fruit (Averrhoa carambola) is starting the flowering stage.
In Indonesia, it's well known as belimbing.
The fruit is popular throughout Southeast Asia, South Pacific and part of East Asia.

The fruit has distinctive ridges running down its sides (usually five, but can sometimes vary); in cross-section, it resembles a star, hence its name.

Blossom...

small, but so... beautiful

The trees are also grown as an ornamental for their abundant brightly colored and unusually shaped fruits, as well as for their attractive dark green leaves and their lavender to pink flowers.
I plant it on a big pot at my back yard.
This flowers only bloom during two hours in the morning, at 8 - 10 AM.
Then soon wither and furl.

I find  a lot of  flower's clusters

furl on the afternoon
I hope the flowers not much to fall.
Because the percentage of flower that forming to the fruit set is very low, just under five percents.
So... I desperately wanted to be able to pick the ripe fruits forward.

  1. I have had star fruit but it may be something different. It was a yellow color as I remember. Those are real special looking flowers.

    1. The ripe fruits actually have yellow color. On the rainy season, the flowers fall out more and more. It's not easy to form fruit set.

  3. We can buy star fruit here in some supermarkets but it is interesting to see the flowers that produce them, So strange that the flowers open for two specific hours - I wonder why that time is good for the flowers.
