FRUIT OF THE WEEK - BILIMBI

This week I get new Vitamin source from  my front yard.
Some of my bilimbi or cucumber tree (Averrhoa bilimbi) are ripe.
Maybe you still remember the flowers on my older post.

The fruit is usually used for pickles, curries, chutney, jam or preserves in syrup.
In Java, the fruit is also used to clean metal and remove stains.
In traditional medicine, we use bilimbi to treat skin disorders, fevers, cough, acne, toothache, also to reduce high blood tension and control obesity.

The fruit is quite sour.
But the flavor is good enough.
And high in vitamin A and C.

I think bilimbi is a very useful plant.
We can use the leaves, flowers and fruits for a lot of functions.

I think I have to make a special dish that made from this fruit.
Or a simple fresh juice...

  1. Wow! I've never seen this fruit before and I have seen my fair share of exotic fruits. I love sour fruits so sounds like I would like this.
