WEEKLY HARVEST - OCT 5

I had rain along this week.
Wet weather made many plants get late blight.
Downpour damaged so many plants on my beds.
Early harvesting was the best way for me to save my garden.

From my front yard, I got cabbages, green globular eggplants, bilimbi and purple eggplants.

From my back yard I got sweet corn, green amaranth, leunca, kara bean, celery, tomatoes, three varieties of chili, red amaranth, kang kong, green onion, green chives, cauliflowers, ranti, cabbages and papaya leaves.

From my terrace garden I got green chives, tomatoes, red lettuces, green lettuces, green onion, caisin flowers, carrots and cabbages.

From my front balcony, I got dewandaru or surinam cherry (Eugenia uniflora) and acid oranges.

We all need rain to refresh our garden, but to much rain sometimes make our gardens became damaged.
I hope we all will have better weather to get better yield from our garden.

  2. I've not heard of many of your crops Endah and it would be really interesting to learn more about some of them,

You may have mentioned them in posts before I started following you so had you thought of adding a search box to your blog?

    1. Yes dewandaru is my favorite fruit in my garden right now. They give me fruit almost around year. The sweet and aromatic taste, also the unique shape make me really love them.

  4. Gosh, you're going to be very busy! Will you be able to preserve a lot of what you've harvested? There seems to be a lot of food there! Absolutely wonderful photos, Endah; your vegetables look very vibrant and healthy. Such a shame that the rain created a need to harvest quickly.

    1. I usually share what I get from my garden with my neighbors or my friends. I was not able to process all. Each day I pick some from my garden, so no space again in my refrigerator. I keep a small amount in the kitchen. I'm lucky that I can plant my garden around the year... non stop. So my vegetables needs are always fulfilled, and often excessive.

  6. beautiful garden, I love peeking into your little world. Here we have to pick before frost or a freeze. Which we had last week. With frost we can cover any plants to help protect them. And keep enjoying our plants. But with a freeze it will kill your plants even if you covered them. So we pick all the veggies last week before the freeze. Our gardens are done for the winter. I now have a tomato plant planted in doors and a red bell pepper planted also indoors. Today it is raining and I am catching rain water to water these plants. Blessing to you enjoy your harvest.

    1. I think I need to learn more about chilling injury. In the dry season, in highland tropics sometime the temperature down into freezing point. It will destroy so many plants on the farmlands. Farmers usually didn't do anything, cause they don't know what should they do. I want to know your 'indoor garden'. I think it will be so interesting.

  7. Your cabbage looks quite amazing Endah. Mine got eaten by caterpillars this year before they got much past the seedling stage...

    1. I have caterpillars attacks on my brassicas. They destroyed from seedling stage until mature stage. I think, they destroyed about 25% of my brassicas. Rainy season have come and so the caterpillars attack rather slightly reduced.
