EDIBLE WEED : PART 10

MONDRENGAN

Mondrengan (Galinsoga parviflora) is a common weed on the farmland.
This plant is also well known as Gallant Soldier or Potato Weed, and as a member of Asteraceae family.
We can find it so plentiful on the potato or cabbage fields.
It's an annual herb, 20-70 cm tall.
The leaves ovate, 2-5 cm long and 1-3 cm wide.
Its growth is so quick, so it's also called 'quick weed'.

The tender part is usually boiled or steamed, sometimes eaten raw as a traditional salad.
This weed is also cooked as a soup with coconut milk.
The taste is slightly  bitter.
It's common used as diuretic, to treat fever, also as home remedy for diarrhea and snake bites.
As an edible weed, this plant is also sold locally on the traditional market.
Do we still going to throw away this weed from our garden?
We have two choices...
Just be a compost heap or be a healthy and tasty dish...

    1. Salam Ana,
This weed grows so well on the porous and well drained soil. On the farmland, well digging makes this weed grow so well, rapidly.
      Thank you for coming

    1. Sometimes a 'waste' plant has a fantastic benefit. We have never known, if we have never learned.

  5. This weed looks like a kind of grass. Good as food, but also good for making compost for the garden I think.

    1. When I pull out this weed, I keep the shoots for greens. And the lower part will be a great compost.
