EDIBLE WEEDS : PART 12

SURUHAN

Suruhan (Peperomia pelludica) is an annual herbaceous plant.
This weed is a fast grower plant.
It really love damp area .
Sometimes we can find it on the damp wall or stones.
They grow so rapidly on the rainy season.
The leaf and shoot are fleshy, so juicy.
The tender shoot is usually eaten raw as salad, cooked or steamed.
The taste is little bit sour.
Suruhan is also well known as medicinal plant.
It has antipiretik and analgetic effect.
The decoction of this plant is used to lower high blood pressure, rheumatism and fever.
The crushed leaves and shoot is used as a home remedy for skin inflamation and other skin disorder.
Although this weed is annoying, but I still get some benefit from it.

  1. It looks as though it spreads well. I wonder if it's a bit of a thug once it gets going.
