EDIBLE WEED : PART 4

JONGE

Jonge is a beautiful weed.
In Java, we usually call it as Tempuh Wiyang or Jawi Rawa.


Jonge (Emilia sonchifolia) is a weed that have so many medicinal benefit.
This plant is usually used to treat influenza, wounds, ulcer, respiration disorder, bronchitis and many more.

 

The extract of this plant is used as additional stuff for antitoxin and antibiotic in pharmacy industry.

 

This plant is well known as an edible weed in Java.
The young leaves and shoots are usually steamed or eaten raw with 'sambal'.
The taste is spicy and slightly bitter.

  3. The top photo reminds me of the mustard/turnip type of plants the way the leaves and the stem looks.

    1. The leaves of adult plant that starting its flowering stage become longer, flat and slim. Looks so different to the leaves of the young plant.

  8. The flower has a lovely color to it . A lot of plants people think of as weeds are actually quite beneficial medicinally.

    1. Yes, you're alright. We have a plenty of weeds that have so many medicinal purpose, but we haven't know about the benefit yet. We should explore our nature.

  9. There are so many weeds that we see everyday, yet do not know their medicinal value. I may have seen this weed before, the flowers look familiar. The different shaped leaves at different stages is rather interesting!

    1. Yes, I think you often see this plant there. You can see the seed on my old post last year, it looks like dandelion.
