Last month, we have talked about oyong or looffah.
Now, for the monthly series we will talk about Pare.
Pare (Momordica caranthia) is a popular vegetable in Indonesia.
Here, we call it as pare, paria or parai.
It well known as bitter gourd, bitter melon, bitter squash or bitter cucumber.
The name according the taste, bitter.
On some variety the bitterness is so varies.
From a little bit bitter until very bitter.
But the bitterness will be reduced through a good processing.
This is my favorite vegetable, not just tasty but has a lot of benefit for our health.
This plant is a member of Cucurbitae family, a close relative to cucumber.
The plant is a dense vine, so I have to spruce the vine every week to keep them tidy and productive
I grow almost all year round on my garden.
So I can pick them almost every week.
It grows well on the warm weather.
On tropical area, this plant is only grown on the lowland until middle land on with the altitude up to 800 meters from sea level.
Next, we will talk about the leaves.
Enjoy the day, and have a wonderful week.
