I think brassica is one of my favorite vegetables to be planted on my garden.
They look so easy to be grown both on ground or containers.
Although so many bugs and disease that always intimidate these plants.
The last species of Brassica that I grow is Round Leaved Kailan.
I grew these plants in a plastic pouches at the first, but when my raised bed have 'empty', I moved these plant on to he bed soon.
I think they need time to grow well on the new place.
Last week I picked the old leaves and cooked them.
The taste is really good.
As a green, it looks so lovely, cause it has long productive period.
I just pick the older leaves repeatedly, but I don't know how long these plants will produce well.
Will they be an annual or biennial... I don't know...
Lets wait and see...
Endah, Selamat hari raya Aidil Adha and thanks for sharing. 1st time tengo round kalilan. Bila dilihat pada daunnya rasanya boleh juga dipanggil kailan kerintingkan..
ReplyDeleteTerima kasih Kak Mala. Yes, you're alright. I think they look like curly kailan.
DeleteI have had kale and cabbage live through winter with the ground frozen solid and then go to seed in the spring. They seem to want to live more than one year if given a chance. They are so good that many bugs like them, a wonderful food!
ReplyDeleteexotic looking kailan.... currently I am growing the normal kailan, with straight round leaves... in pots of course. :)
DeleteYes, Sunnybrook, I think your kale and cabbage grow well a biennial there. So they can produce seed on the second year. Here, the period is shorter, so both of vegetative and generative period occur during one year.
DeleteThank you Bangchik and Kakdah! I'm growing several varieties of kailan this season. They look grow so well on pots, like yours.
DeleteThis looks like a broader leaved version of Cavolo Nero kale which I haven't come across before
ReplyDeleteYes, that's right, But I think the leaves of Cavalo Nero kale are darker and more curly.
DeleteI love brassicas, too, Endah. Yours look very healthy. I have some excellent cabbages in my garden at this time. P. x
ReplyDeleteThank you, Pamela. I hope yours will grow so well.
DeleteSelamat Hari Raya Haji Endah! I have done that too! They stay quiet long that way!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Malar! Yes, it must be so interesting to find them grow and produce on the long periods.
