PAPAYA : FIRST RIPEN FRUIT

My papaya tree gave me its first fruit this week.
Actually I'm not sure to keep the tree stand on longer in my garden.
The fruit quality of this variety usually is not good enough.
The taste is fairy sweet and the texture is less crisp.

At the first time, my husband wanted the tree was cut down.
Cause the fruit quality is fairy low, he wanted to grow the better variety.
This tree is self seeded, I think it's a part of my compost heap.
The tree is grown on the raised bed side by side with my Kara plot.

I think let the tree get fruiting is better for us.
Cause we could know the real taste.
Sometime  I pick the leaves as greens.

Now... the first ripen papaya is hanging on the tree.
Lets pick and taste it...

    1. The taste is fairy sweet, and it's better to preserve before full ripen. So we will get 'crisp' texture.

    1. Yes, a nice 'volunteer'. I get both of the fruits and leaves.

  4. I had never seen fruit on the tree, didn't really expect it to come off the trunk like that. You could plant a good variety and then cut this one down when the other starts bearing.

    1. Yes, I'm agree with you. I have already bought papaya seed in an online store this morning, and I have been waiting for my seeds order. I think I will cut down this tree if the new one start bearing the fruits. Maybe it needs 8-10 months from sowing

  5. I just think it's so cool you can grow papaya, even if the taste isn't ideal.

    1. Yeah, actually they are not too bad. Grow our own food is much better and of course healthy.

  6. Sometimes you have to cut something down. Or try to get rid of bugs. Gardening is like life itself: Making hard decisions, figthing sometimes, getting many presents and so much joy! Have a nice day and - perhaps - very tasty papayas!
    Yours Sarah

  7. I hope you'll tell us how it tastes. The idea of having you own papayas is so exotic to me!

  8. Great to have papayas from your own germinated tree on the compost heap. I hope the taste is good enough to keep the tree.

    1. Thanks Janneke. Yes, I hope so. The weather during the fruiting stage will influence fruit quality, especially rain. Too much rain makes the sweetness become lower.

    1. Wah sayang ya, di kebunku sering sekali pepaya tumbuh sendiri, mungkin biji dari kompos atau jatuh dimakan burung. Tumbuh subur tanpa perawatan

  10. Awesome, watch papaya growing on a tree.
Sometimes I buy it in the supermarket.
Sometimes, because it is very, very expensive.
    Yours very sincerely.
