HARVESTING KECIPIR FOR SEED

These are the ripe mature kecipir or winged bean that picked by my niece several weeks ago.
Now, the beans have already dried naturally.
They are ready to be saved as seed.

As usual we always save seeds from so many plant that we grow in our own garden.
New plants that came from the our own seeds usually more adaptable to our garden.

Some of the seeds actually have eaten by seed miner.
Another seeds have cracked.

Whatever we still have some healthy seeds to be grown next season.

HARVESTING KECIPIR

Our winged bean or kecipir is growing so happy on our backyard.
Lots of flowers and little beans.

Last week we had a volunteer, yeah... my niece stay for several days in our house.
She likes climbing, so she helped us to pick the beans that climb on the high wall.
Thanks girl...

Look... these that we got...

The vine looks so lush and the bean are hanging here and there.

The fresh young beans are great to be steamed or stir fried.

Some dry-ripe beans are ready for the seeds.

HARVESTING FRESH KECIPIR AKA WINGED BEAN

Something that so interesting in our eastern backyard.
When I was looking at the top of our east wall, I looked something different on the lush vine at the corner of this part.

Some unique bean were hanging on this vine.
Yeay... our 'kecipir' vine finally produce its fresh beans.

Kecipir (Psophocarpus tetragonolobus) or winged bean is a perennial bean that grow mostly on the home garden on the village.
I sowed the seed about a year ago.
Actually I often grow this kind of bean but they didn't produce bean, only a very lush leaves that we could find.
But now we can harvest the beans.

Lots of the flowers too...
Sorry the vine is too high, so I can't take any pictures of its flowers.

The vine is growing here and there.
I have to use a stair to pick the bean.

KECIPIR

Walking down the Nursery Division, we found lots of fresh 'things'.
As usual, we took home a few 'thing' from this place.
A very lush vine on the edge of the nursery and a half part  of the vine were climbing on the hedge.
We found a bountiful bean, yes there were lot of 'kecipir' or winged beans.
Winged bean (Psophocarpus tetragonolobus L) is well known in Indonesia as Kecipir, cipir or jaat.

It's usually sold on the traditional markets.
The young pods are tied using bamboo rope, and sold as vegetable.
The mature bean is usually harvested for the seeds.
The seeds from the mature bean will be boiled as a healthy snack.
Look a few that we got to be taken home.
Fresh young winged beans to be cooked as traditional salad or stir fried.
So lovely...
