HARVESTING THE CANNA SEED

Finding ripen Canna fruit made me so interested to explore it more.
Actually, I have never known that Canna will produce fertile seed to be grown, but when some blogging friend share about growing Canna using the seed, I was interested to try to grow canna seed.

I'm lucky that I can find two ripen canna fruits from my back yard.

Then I picked the fruits and removed the rind.

I find some black seeds inside.
It looks like black soybean.

I get nine seeds from the two ripen fruits.
These seeds are ready to be sowed.
It's a new experience, here we usually grow the canna rhizome or young plant, but not the seed.
It's so interesting...

MY POOR CANNA TODAY...

When I was checking my back yard several days ago, I surprised... 

I found a bunch of beautiful canna on the western raised bed.

Maybe you still remember  with my poor canna.
Now, the clump is bearing the second stalk with a bunch of flowers on it.

But the last rain made the flowers on the second stalk were fallen.

We can find two ripen fruits on the first stalk.
Actually, the first stalk produced three bunches of canna flowers several times ago.
Not all of the flower set the fruit.
We can see from the picture above.

Look the slim flower buds remain...

Some young fruit have formed.
So unique...
I hope the second stalk will produce more flowers and cheering my back yard.

AN AROMATIC MORNING

This is a very fresh morning.

Last two days we have rainy day.

Since the dry season have begun at the early May, that was the first rain.

That was really refreshing our garden.

This morning I'm finding a very fresh fragrance in my living room.

It comes from my little front yard.

Yes, a special fragrance from one day blooming orchid, white Dove orchid.

This is the fourth bloom this year.

Although the bloom is not too much as usual.

Side by side to the white Dove orchid, I find a fresh mint aroma from my Gloxinia, that start blooming this year.

In front of garage I find refreshing aroma from calamondine or acid orange flowers (Citrofortunella sp).
The flower buds and blooms look so promising after I did pruning several weeks ago.

From the gate side the aroma of lemon flowers is so relaxing.
The white flowers and fruits are bearing on the end of the branches.

From another part, beside the garden benches, the aroma of Cananga odorata is so nice.
Peoples say that it's heavenly aroma.
But I'm not sure about that.

As long as I know that this flower is usually used as aromatherapy to lower the high blood pressure and to treat head ache.

On the corner of the west side, I find lot of little white flowers from Srigading shrub, that spread a very nice fragrance along the night.

From the same part, I find some pink Plumeria flowers that fallen on to the ground, and they are still giving me a nice smell.

Finally, I collect some fallen flowers, just for 'take' the aroma remain.

THE BLUE TRUMPET

My eastern back yard is brighter now.
This part is a shady area before, cause it got shade from the teak tree that grows on my neighbor's garden.
Several days ago he pruned the branches that made shade into my garden.
Some plants have died cause too much shade.
Now, the survivor looks better than before.
Look these blue trumpets...

One of the survivor is King's mantle (Thunbergia erecta).
More sunshine, so this plant is blooming.

Actually, it's just an old fashion plant.

On my childhood, this plant was usually used as a flowery hedge.

Intensive pruning makes the branching grows intensively.

I only grow this plant to be collected on my little garden.
I'm so happy that finally this plant get blooming.

Now, almost every day I can find the little blue trumpets are hanging on the slim twigs.
So lovely...

UP AND DOWN...

What a surprise...

My curly fern is growing so healthy on my balcony, although with a little handling.
I think, I have to cut the old and brownish leaves to make the clump become much better.

Growing up and down...
Yes, I find two little ferns on the bottom side of the pot.

The clump is so dense, I think it's time to do repotting.
As I remember that I planted this fern more than three years ago.

This pot has over loaded, so the ferns growing up and down.
The stolon is growing every where to find a space.
And it gets space on drainage holes.
Oh please... I'm a lazy gardener...

PINKY CANDLES FROM THE FRONT YARD

The green leaved Boroco (Celosia argentea) is blooming beautifully on my front yard right now.
The flower like as a candle.
Blooming among the lemon tree branches.

A simple flower, and easy growing plant.

Fill the empty space on my front yard.

Just a simply beauty...

GREENS FROM THE HEDGE...

Just a limited time on gardening...
Yes, I should do pruning on my hedge on the middle of May.
The cassava leaves grow so healthy, and I should pick this edible hedge as a greens.
Look the colorful hedge on May 9...

You can imagine the height of the cassava plant two days ago, so high... more than a meter.
The hedge also took over some part of the path way.
This is the hedge today...

I picked the shoots and young leaves, and cooked it on boiling water with a pinch of salt until the leaves became tender.

It was eaten with rice and salty fish.
