RED LETTUCE : BOLTING

These are two of red lettuces remain in our terrace garden
I sowed a pinch of Kayla Red lettuce, but only two seed germinated and grew.
It might the seeds have expired or other reason.

What a shame the lettuces aren't growing compactly as usual.
One of the lettuces are bolting.

I think they only have limited sun shine, so the color is not so bright, greenish and a bit pale.

The taste and texture are similar to common lettuce.
However they are coloring our terrace garden as well.

    1. Betul Kak Mala. Tuai benih sendiri lebih menyenangkan, tapi kadang banyak yang tak berkecambah.

  4. Do you still harvest the leaves now that the lettuces have bolted?

    1. No, Sue. I don't harvest the leaves that the lettuces have bolted. The taste is a bit bitter.

  5. I usually don't eat them once they bolt. We had our first frost of the season the other day.

  6. Oh gosh, that is healthy lettuce! I saved some seeds from the lettuce pack I planted in the spring, and re-planted lettuce in the fall. The little plants are growing slowly, but I think I need to find a different spot for them. I think red lettuce has more nutritional iron in it, or some other benefit over green lettuce.
