ASPARAGUS : UPDATE SEPTEMBER 2016

This is my asparagus plant today

I moved it from the terrace garden into the backyard, near the washing area.
The weather in this new place a bit cooler than in our terrace garden.

As long as I know, this plant is a shade tolerant plant.
But I have to learn about this plant more and more.

I have ever seen that asparagus plant in the productive period usually 'loose leaves', I means gardener cut all the leaf stalks.

Look... the spear that popping up from the soil is so small/slim.
It might I will get bigger tubby spear if I remove all the leaves.

Readers, please share me your experience how to treat this plant.
Thanks before...

Harganya agak mahal. Kalau di Malaysia harganya RM70.00 - RM100.00. Ia akan muncul di atas Tanah. Kemudian endah boleh tuai asparagus tersebut.

  2. Hi Endah, I am not a vegetable gardener, but my understanding is that you dig out the asparagus spears if you want to eat them before they have a chance to produce leaves.
That being said, I am more than surprised to see asparagus even growing in your region.
You certainly like to experiment with veggies!
    Warm regards,
    Christina

  3. Endah
to eat asparagus, they must be high to earth ground.
Asparagus is a delicious vegetable. In Europe, the asparagus season starts in May and ends in early June.
    Greetings.

  4. You should chop that little spear offo before it gets too big. I'm not sure about growing in pots as the edible sprouts pop up all over the place!

  5. I have asparagus, Endah, but never eat it :) It's a decorative home plant here. Mine blooms and has fruit - red small berries. The flowers are fragrant and pretty. I re-plant it in bigger pot every 3 years, because asparagus has many roots in this period.
