Ranti or glossy nightdhade (Solanum americanum) is common weed on the home garden or farmland.
It grows easily on so many type of soil.

Sometimes we can find it grow so well on the roadside.
Ranti have little white flowers.
This plant produces little fruits in a cluster.
The fruit a globular berry, from green turning glossy bluish black or purplish black at maturity, readily shed when ripe.
When I was a young girl, I used to pick this fruit from the road side after school, then ate it with my friends or my sister.
The young leaves and tender shoot are well known as a green vegetable.
This green is usually cooked as a soup, steamed or sometimes eaten raw.
The taste is slightly bitter.
In traditional medicine, a decoction of the leaves is used a lotion for yaws an to alleviate neuralgic pains.
The fruit have laxative and diuretic properties.
In West Java, the berries are recommended as an afphrodisiac.
We can find this green sold on some traditional market, especially on the highland area.
Although this weed is annoying, buy ee can get some benefit from it.
So...Don't forget it...
Sounds a bit scary eat nightshade as we have deadly nightshade which is poisonous although potatoes and tomatios are also in the solanum family. In Victorian times they made belladonna eye drops from the deadly nightshade plant to dilate eyes and make women look beautiful.

DeleteI think our nightshade is poison as I haven't seen animals eat it but your version is edible.
